Ancient Forest of Tyresta National Park
Hike with us in a wild country on the edge of the city! Tyresta is the closest undisturbed forest to any European capital city. Tyresta is a truly magical forest with leaning, moss-covered trunks, dramatic cliffs and clear-blue forest lakes. We will walk in a calm pace with plenty of stops.
Our hike is a journey in time. We start at the water fall in Nyfors where there were already mills and gun powder factories in the 15th century. The village of Tyresta is well preserved with its oldest house dating from the 18th century. Out in the National Park we can find traces from early stone age peoples as well as from the laborious attempts that have been made to chop this forest down. During the hike you’ll be able to acquaint yourself with the remarkable story of how this forest was saved and to learn about what life may have been like for the early stone age people as well as a great deal more interesting information about the area.
We continue hiking along the Sörmland Trail past magnificent viewpoints, old meadows and thick forests. At Lake Årsjön in the heart of Tyresta we serve lunch and maybe take a refreshing dip in the clear, inviting water.
